Healthcare professionals are often required to assess the mental capacity of their patients to make specific decisions relating to their care and treatment. This assessment is undertaken in a more structured way when it is done for a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) or for court appointed Deputyship.

This webinar, jointly organised by the SMA Centre for Medical Ethics and Professionalism and College of Psychiatrist, Academy of Medicine, Singapore, will introduce the basic concepts as well as explore the subtleties of the mental capacity assessments required for certifying of a LPA both at primary care setting and in more vulnerable populations i.e. those with Dementia or Intellectual Disability. There will also be an introduction to the legal requirements for Deputyship applications. It will be conducted by doctors, lawyers and other professionals experienced in this area of work.
